My Personality

July 6, 2011
Have you ever heard of the Myers-Briggs personality tests?

I find them fascinating. My husband (he’s an INFP) doesn’t feel it’s possible to classify people and put them into neat little boxes.

I tend to disagree. But maybe that’s because I’m an INTJ:

I like things in boxes.

What about you? Do you know your own typology? Do you think it’s a bunch of hullaballoo? Personally, I don’t think you can figure out every person’s every action based on a “test.” But knowing that some people lead with their hearts and not their heads helps me to sometimes know better how to communicate with them. They are not necessarily going to appreciate pure justice and cold heart facts all the time. Or me telling them they are flat-out wrong. šŸ˜‰

Hi! I am very familiar with the Myers-Briggs. I am a master-level therapist and learned all about this in grad school. It is a good measure of personality and I think it is a valuable tool. I want to use this with my co-workers in the future! I am an ESFJ…although that was from years ago! I suppose i would be the same? Interesting post – thanks for sharing! Stacey of Embracing Change

HA! I am an INTJ too. Must be a blogger thing. šŸ™‚ I had to take it in college before a career counseling appointment many years back, but I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed since then.I feel like those tests are accurate to a degree, but then I also think that we tend to think things about ourselves that aren't always true. Like, I have a friend who's convinced she's outgoing and assertive and she's totally not. And when I've told people that I'm introverted, they often respond incredulously.

I always found Myers-Briggs fascinating, in part b/c every time I take it, I get something different. I kind of find that to be not a flaw but a positive in it. People change, they are different. I haven't taken it in a year or two. It might be time to give it another go šŸ™‚
