How to Decorate a Plain Notebook

July 7, 2011
Plain composition notebooks are boring. Why not add some pizzazz? Especially when you can do it on the cheap with materials you probably already have on hand.

First, gather your materials. You need a composition notebook, a couple of different scrapbook papers, mod podge, and whatever you want to embellish the notebook.

Measure your notebook. My cover (to the black edge) was 9 3/4″ by 6 1/2″. I cut three strips of each paper to 3 1/4″ by 6 1/2″.

Next, attach the papers to the cover in an alternating fashion. Spread a thin layer of mod podge on the cover, and place the paper carefully, lining up the edges. Repeat on back cover.

Your notebook will no doubt have rounded edges, like mine, so you’ll end up with some overhang. Carefully cut this excess off with scissors.

Apply another thin layer of mod podge over the entire cover to seal it. Let dry. Embellish however you like. My notebook was for an upcoming convention, so I stamped “notes” on a small piece of paper and attached it to the front. I also added some green rhinestones. Using a 1″ round punch I attached some cute circles of the papers.
